Texts Take Back Seat to Safety With New Ban

Categories:

I am a self-admitted text messager and driver. I like the safety aspects of this new ban, but I did not welcome it when the new year arrived. I got in the car for the first time today to see how hard it would be to put my phone away. Luckily, taping the video podcast took my attention away from texting. But it gave me the hope that I can do it! Watch this video for the low down, and make sure you watch the end for a couple of bloopers!

As a motorcycle rider I'm terrified of drivers like you.

I wonder if they could fine you just because you made this video. I think filming yourself while driving is even more dangerous (note... it is the bloopers that scared the hell out of me!!! ). If the Austin city council sees this clip I assume they will have to call an emergency meeting for the "taking video while driving ban" legislation!

Hi Jim, thank you for the comment. I hope the fact that most of the taping was at a speed of 40 mph calms your nerves a bit. Also, I don't do this sort of thing ever and there were no motorcycles around me. Part of my point, sarcastically, was that the cell phone texting ban - geared toward safety - isn't going to solve the overall problem of people being distracted while driving. Hopefully it will help out a bit, and I promise no more taping in the car!

Thom, I could definitely see an emergency meeting being called! Thanks for the laugh!

Hey Ryan,

I just wanted to tell you how much I love your blog site! Now, that I live in Las Vegas I can keep up with things that are going on in Austin via your blog and the news stations websites.

Way 2 GO!

NO phone zone! I have stopped talking and texting for 2 days now. The safety of my children and others on the road are more important then any texting or talking since I do not have a blue tooth either.
